Music Ministry
St. Andrew is home to a vibrant and growing sacred music program. Our dedicated cantors and choir members work hard, under the Director of Music, to develop their faith-filled musicianship. The goal of our sacred music program is to always present the finest music to the glory of Almighty God, and to the delight of our listeners.
Parish Choir:
The St. Andrew Parish Choir focuses on singing the Gregorian Propers of the Graduale Romanum, as well as singing the finest of English-language hymnody. On special occasions, we sing polyphonic motets, choral settings of the Ordinary of the Mass, and other great choral works. The choir sings regularly at the Sunday 11:00am Solemn Mass and rehearses at 12:30pm on Sundays, immediately following Mass. Rehearsal ordinarily lasts 60 to 90 minutes. The choir also sings the Vigil Mass for major Feast Days throughout the year, and the Christmas Midnight Mass.
Parish Cantors:
The principal role of the Cantor in Divine Worship is to serve as Psalmist for the appointed Psalmody, as well as to chant, as soloist, the Propers of the Mass. The Cantor also assists in leading the congregation in singing the various hymns and responses which take place during the Liturgy. Here at St. Andrew, the two weekly Vigil Masses (Saturdays at 4:30pm and 6:00pm) as well as the Sunday 9:00am Mass, are all led by Cantor and organ. At these Masses, we sing the Simple English Propers, as well as the finest of English-language hymnody, and a traditional English-language Ordinary of the Mass.
Previous choral singing experience very helpful, but not required.
The ability to read music at some level is helpful and preferred.
