Catholic Charities

Catholic Charities fulfills the Church’s role in the mission of charity by providing compassionate and competent emergency assistance, adoption services, disaster response, and professional services that strengthen and support individuals, families, and communities based on the value and dignity of human life.

The office is located in Conway, South Carolina, and can be reached by calling 488-2112.

Gift Shop

The parish gift shop is open before and after all weekday and weekend Masses. The shop stocks a wide variety of merchandise at reasonable prices. The gift shop is run by the Women’s Club and helps support our church.

Hibernians

The Ancient Order of Hibernians is a Catholic fraternal and service organization for men of Irish ancestry.

Knights of Columbus

The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic fraternal and service organization for Catholic men. The Knights support spiritual, civic, right-to-life, youth activities for the community and provide a full study course on the Catholic faith through the Catholic Information Service. On an international basis, the Knights of Columbus supports programs for people with mental retardation. Membership is open to all Catholic men.

Knitting Ministry

Members meet twice a month to knit or crochet afghans, hats, lap robes, and other warm items for the needy.

Mobile Meals

This organization uses volunteers to deliver nutritious meals to shut-ins and those who are unable to prepare their own meals. A driver and van are provided. Volunteers work for one week increments five or six times in a year.

Pax Christi

The Grand Strand Pax Christi meets at 7 PM on the third Thursday of the month at St. Michael’s in Garden City. A number of St. Andrew’s parishioners attend. The members of Pax Christi pray, study, and act for peace with justice.

Respect Life

This ministry supports the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death. Members participate in First Friday rosaries, the annual Life Chain on Kings Highway, the March for Life in Columbia, and prayer vigils in area churches.

Respect Life members organize an annual golf tournament every December to fund their activities, the most visible of which is their billboard program.


Rosary Makers

The rosary makers get together on the third Thursday of each month to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary by making rosaries. Almost 17,000 rosaries have been mailed to missions all over the world.

Rosary makers can be male or female, young or young at heart. Instructions are easy to follow, and many people make rosaries at home while watching television.

Seniors

St. Andrew’s promotes friendships and support for senior parishioners with luncheons, dinners, shows, and other outings. Church projects and service opportunities are also available. The seniors group includes singles, widows, widowers, and couples.

Social Outreach

Once a month, our second collection is designated for social outreach in the Myrtle Beach community. Many of our parishioners also volunteer their time generously to local organizations that serve the needy. Some of the local organizations we support are Helping Hand, Community Kitchen, Community Thrift Shop, SOS (Surviving Our System), Mercy Hospice, Mobile Meals, and Caring for Kids.

Sports Teams

St. Andrew Church sponsors men’s and women’s baseball teams and a men’s basketball team that ompete in local church leagues. We publicize their recruitment announcements and coming games in our bulletin.

Welcoming Committee

A member of the Welcoming Committee contacts newly registered parishioners to welcome them to the parish, answer their questions, and help make them comfortable at St. Andrew’s. The committee schedules welcoming events for new parishioners several times a year.

Women’s Club

The Women’s Club operates the parish gift shop, runs an annual vintage fair, does hospital visits, and hosts many parish activities. The group meets the second Monday of every month in the school cafeteria. All women are invited to join the club for friendship and fun.

Young Adults

Members of Grand Strand Catholic Young Adults are men and women between the ages of 21 and 45. The organization is primarily a social group to give single adult Catholics an opportunity to meet other people their own age with the same faith background. The group plans regular events and notifies people who are interested. We publicize the group’s events regularly in our bulletin.
